FAQs

What is the best month to plant bulbs?

Spring flowering bulbs are usually planted between September and November, depending on the flower species you have chosen. Summer flowering bulbs such as alliums should be planted in spring, when the soil starts to warm up. Summer bulbs need a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius before they'll start to grow. Colder springs can delay flowering as the bulb will not emerge before the soil temperature allows.

Is it too late to plant bulbs in May?

Summer flowering bulbs can be planted as late as May. In some cases a later planting date is beneficial as it reduces the likelihood of bulbs being damaged by frost. Remember flower bulbs will not start to grow if the soil is still cold.

Can I plant daffodil bulbs in June?

Daffodil bulbs should be planted outside in early autumn, ideally around the middle of September.

How long do bulbs take to grow?

Flower bulbs are planted when dormant and usually take just a few months to come into bloom. Emergence and flowering can be sped up if the soil conditions are favorable.
