Snakes Head Fritillaria Bulbs (Fritillaria meleagris)
Snakes Head Fritillaria Bulbs (Fritillaria meleagris)
Snakes Head Fritillaria bulbs (Fritillaria meleagris) are an attractive addition to a garden. Historically, the bulbs were commonly found in hay meadows and long term grass leys. They possess a purple bell-shaped head featuring a chequered pattern, and they are supported by thin stems and long, thin foliage. These delicate bulbs thrive in moist conditions and provide an ideal addition to a wildflower garden or pot display -- even a woodland area. Care should be taken when planting Fritillaria meleagris as the bulbs are fragile. Plant the bulbs on their side from September onwards in well-drained, fertile soil, preferably in a sheltered position.
